European Multilateral Clearing Facility N.V. (EMCF)

The European Multilateral Clearing Facility N.V. (EMCF) is a company wholly owned by Fortis. The company was set up by Fortis in 2007 to act as a central counterparty clearing house for multilateral trading facilities (MTF) and other securities exchanges.

Business

EMCF started its operations on 30 March 2007, acting as the clearing house for 5 Dutch and 5 German equities, traded on Chi-X. Chi-X Europe Limited is a new multilateral trading facility largely owned by Instinet Europe Limited that operates out of London.

Since the start end of March, EMCF now clears all the Dutch AEX-index constituent stocks and the German DAX-index constituent stock traded on Chi-X. In June the UK market was added to the products cleared by EMCF and today, EMCF also acts as central counterparty clearing house for all FTSE-100 constituent stocks traded on Chi-X.
